Scabies is a skin disease caused by a bacterium called Sarcoptes scabei.

Its main symptoms are itching and rash on the body

The mite is spread from person to person causes an itchy, red rash

Common Scabies

Types of Scabies:

Nodular scabies

Can cause intense itching, rashes, and blisters

Norwegian scabies

The mites  presence of nodules or bumps on the skin.

1. It spreads through contact with an infected person. 2. It can also be spread by sharing bedding or clothing of an infected person. 3. Mites may spread through sexual intercourse.

Reasons for Scabies:

Symptoms of scabies:

– severe itching – irritation – Red spots on the skin – Thickening of the skin – Blisters – sore

Scabies symptoms may take 4 to 8 weeks to develop in a person who has never been exposed to the infection

In a previously infected person, symptoms appear within a few days, usually 1 to 4 days.

Due to increased mite activity, itching often worsens at night.

Treatment of Scabies:

– Avoiding prolonged, close skin-to-skin contact with infected persons. – Avoid sharing clothes, bedding, or towels with people who have scabies. - Consult with the Dermatologist.

– Wash the affected person's clothing, bedding, and towels in hot water and dry them on a hot cycle. – Vacuuming carpets and furniture and disposing of the vacuum bag to remove any potential mites that have fallen off the skin.
